Sewer Line Camera Inspection

Advantages Of A Sewer Line Camera Inspection

After successful completion in clearing clogs or obstructions from water or sewage lines and pipes, a sewage line camera inspection is necessary to prove that all obstructions have been removed. The benefits of a sewer line camera inspection are as follows:

  • Identifies the location of your drain line.
  • Confirms the current condition in which your line or pipe is. This gives confidence in the health of your plumbing system
  • Locates the break in a water line or pipe.
  • Tells you in details what is wrong with the line or pipe. Early identification of problems in the line or pipe gives early resolution of potential problems.
  • Detects third party damage to sewer lines.
  • Prevents unnecessary digging and eliminates guesswork.
  • Provide you with a video evidence of your sewer for personal or insurance purposes.

Sewer Line Camera Inspection
The biggest threat to a sewer system is plant life. Plant roots with time can entangle themselves around sewer piping gnawing through weak spots caused by damage or rusting. This clogs the pipe’s flow. A sewer line camera inspection is a popular form of non-destructive testing. It gauges the health and strength of your sewage structure minus any damage in the process. The camera is lowered through the pipeline to view any blockages and pipeline damages. This is convenient in highlighting threats or possible problems. Sewer line camera inspection saves on the prospective damage that can occur due to a burst. This would be expensive since it would involve repairs or full replacement of broken equipment. It is important to carry out sewer line camera inspections annually as weather, nature and timing requires only one year to cause more damage.
There are some tests done during sewer line camera inspection including:

  • Smoke testing. Involves pumping smoke through sewer pipes from manholes in streets or within public rights of way. As this is done, a skilled professional observes using a sewer line camera and documents where smoke exits. The exiting smoke shows the location of a broken pipe, catch basin, man hole or where foundation drains are connected to the sewer system, pointing out where infiltration or inflow gets into the sewer system. The smoke may also show up from cracks in the pavement above the sewer. Smoke used in this process is colored to increase visibility. It has no effect on plants and animal life plus leaves no stains behind. The smoke is non-toxic and doesn’t cause any fire hazard.

  • Dye testing. This is another way of conducting a sewer line camera inspection and involves the use of fluorescent colored dye. With this, inappropriate connections are noted and seen. The dyes that are used are fluorescent and are quite easy to detect. The other good thing about them is that they are biodegradable and thus environmentally friendly. If a dye for example is introduced to a catch basin and then observed in the sanitary sewer from that point, there would be evidence to show that the catch basin is connected to the sewer system.
